Gamelan Music (KIME WK 8)

This Week we were introduced to traditional Indonesian music. Gamelan Music consists of various metal percussion, varying in pitch and tuning. Thus creating a buzz of sound that is quite surreal and meditative.

What I took out from this week, Is how Simple riffs and (that's right) borduns, can have such a powerful effect when combined. One problem, music educators come across is that music is either too complicated for students to perform, or too simplistic to the point of being boring. Gamelan music, thought it utilizes 'simple' rhythms, requires good coordination and aural skills. More than that, when all the instruments are combined, the result is quite phenomenal. I will have to go back and explore more about Javanese Gamelan Music. But Definitely a great Idea for a lesson plan.
